                     CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF SHERIDAN

Sheridan has had an amazing 40 year history, from risqué names and marketing campaigns to product innovation and global distribution, this iconic brand has certainly had a “colourful” past!

Sheridan has been intricately woven into our heritage and evolution over the past four decades, with its primary aim always remaining the same – to provide consumers with the best products through ensuring high quality standards. Their constant desire for innovation and outstanding creativity and design has been at the forefront of their success.

                    EARLY INNOVATIONS

As early as the 1970's Sheridan  introduced the printed sheet, and the fitted sheet, and introduced the quilt cover into the Australian market place.  It was a more versatile alternative to the common bedspread, giving rise to the widely recognized phrase “fabric made by Sheridan, suitable for bedspreads too!”

Sheridan’s early campaigns featured  notable women of the time who were generally the wives of established high profile men such as Merrivale Hemmes, William Le Lieve and cabinet minister Andrew Peacock.

One of those notable women, Mrs. Susan Peacock, was featured in a Sheridan campaign in 1970, which received a huge amount of controversy and publicity, almost causing the cabinet Minister to resign.  However, the resulting publicity made the Sheridan brand a household name and by the end of the decade Sheridan was the no.1 brand for homewares in Australia. This was the beginning of Sheridan’s glory, printed sheets and pillowcases were now in thousands of homes across Australia.

In 1984 Sheridan launched its Cotton Percale collection featuring a man rather than a woman in their advertising.  This time letters poured in from all over Australia not only to compliment the bed linen but also to ask the address of the ‘cotton man’.  Both women and men identified with this exciting campaign and it highlighted the market need for simpler and more ‘male friendly’ products. Hence it paved the way for such designs as the Oxford chambray and a woven stripe for the first time.

BOLD COLOUR, BOLD PRINTS AND MORE COLOUR!

In 1985 the iconic Australian artist & designer Ken Done designed for Sheridan. Brilliant colours and unique art based prints inspired Ken’s bed linen designs with plants, animals and pastels becoming a huge hit within the Australian and USA markets. Sheridan’s collaboration with another fashion icon Jenny Kee in 1987 allowed the Sheridan brand to experience bed linen designs with her signature passion of rich, bright colours that exploded onto the Australian market with huge success.

In 1987 Sheridan opened its first international store in Madison Avenue, New York, and within nine months Sheridan grew its presence throughout America, East Asia and Europe. By the late 80’s Sheridan was making 110 different sizes to comply with every shape of bed and pillow worldwide!

A ‘natural movement’ took hold of fashion in the 1990’s as the luxury market was expanding.  The balance of natural versus synthetic cloth weighed heavily on the finer, better quality cotton. With the expansion of Sheridan’s product line there was a welcomed return of floral and opulent prints designs with Chippendale, Provencale and Botticelli displayed in homes around the world.

                         THE NEW MILLENNIUM

SHERIDAN PEAKS IN LUXURY AND INNOVATION

In 2000, the pinnacle statement for Sheridan, the Millennia 1000 thread count bed linen range brought the ultimate experience in the bedroom.  The image of luxury status and desirability was continued as two iconic Australian brands joined forces. Elle Macpherson became Sheridan’s brand ambassador for this era.

In 2006, Sheridan introduced a new and exclusive technology with their supreme luxury fabrication - Supima Cotton – the world’s finest cotton, with a new bed linen and bathroom collection that re-affirmed Sheridan’s position as innovator and market leader.

Sheridan continued to push the boundaries through innovation, design, quality craftsmanship and new technology with the introduction of She by Sheridan.  A glamorous haute couture collection for the bedroom where accessories could be easily translated from the bedroom to the wardrobe, this hand-crafted, luxuriously intricate bed linen truly represents re-defined luxury for the 21st century.

Sheridan’s commitment to enhancing our sleep experience has secured their position as market leader through the past four decades.  Their devotion to the bedroom through exceptional design, high quality craftsmanship, unique products and continuous innovation is to be celebrated.
